Infograph-tastic!

So. We’re not a marketing company, though people mistake us for one all the time. We’ll address what we actually are in a different post.

We’ve been spending more and more time lately trying to figure out how to use digital marketing to get in front of more customers. And having a strong background in analytics and sociology means we’re data nerds. Numbers tell the most definitive stories. If it’s there in black and white it’s irrefutable. Sometimes you can have all of the data, but if it’s not presented in a meaningful way it’s pretty useless. Not in general, just to specific groups of people.

Recently I pulled data from a bunch of HootSuite articles. I’ve linked the one I drew most information from here.

There was so much good information in this article but it was presented in a way that made it frustratingly hard to extrapolate the information that I needed. I wrote down everything I wanted to know in my little notebook and it made my brain hurt trying to pull out what I wanted to know.

The data was presented platform by platform - percentage of users who were x age or this gender. I was uninterested in how the platforms themselves were faring and more about how each age group or gender used these platforms.

Ultimately, I had to build an infographic to make sense of the whole thing. I’ve always had a rule for data. If I want to know something, it’s likely that someone else wants to know the same thing. So, I’m sharing the infographic below.

Some caveats:

  • This data is from Q1-2023 so it’s about a year old.

  • I didn’t include X/Twitter. This platform is a bit volatile and I don’t know that the data is accurate any more.

  • I didn’t include Threads because it’s a new platform and still finding it’s footing.

  • I included Reddit from a different source. It’s from Q4-2022 so it’s pretty close, historically.
