Adding Your Address to Instagram - The RIGHT Way.

There are some of you who’ve seen this title and went, huh. I didn’t know that there was a right way to add my business address to Instagram. I mean, a business address SOMEWHERE on Instagram is better than NO address on Instagram. Today, we’ll show you how to add your address that allows Instagram to “geolocate” your address.

If watching videos is your thing, you can find these same instructions with screenshots on YouTube here.

Why is this way THE BEST? There are two reasons why:

  1. This helps Instagram understand where your restaurant is, and will start showing your business address to people who are nearby. When you have a brick and mortar location, this is a great way to get new patrons to your restaurant!

  2. This helps people get directions to your location through Instagram. If someone is on Instagram, specifically looking for somewhere to eat, this option could help someone make a quick decision. They’ll either find out how far away you are from them or they’ll get quick directions to come right away. Either way, win/win for you!

Let’s say you either don’t want people to have your address - either you have multiple locations or you’re not a restaurant and you’d like to connect with people near you. You can just add your city & state, too.

How do you add your address to Instagram to take advantage of proximity?

  1. You’ll need a phone with the Instagram app installed and your account logged in. You can’t use a computer. Yes, it’s lame. While you’re there add your website. You can’t do that on desktop either.

  2. Click on “Edit Profile”.

  3. Scroll down and click on “Contact Options”.

  4. Click on the address pin second from the bottom.

  5. Add your street address in the first line.

  6. Click on the second line and search for your city & state. When it shows up on the list, click on it. It’ll redirect you back to the address page.

  7. Add your zip code to the third line.

  8. Then click “Done” in the upper right hand corner.

  9. Then click “Save” in the upper right hand corner.

  10. Click the back arrow in the upper left hand corner to go back to your profile page.

  11. Do you see your address under your bio? No? That’s ok. Your address is probably hidden. (If you see it, you can go on to step 17 to verify your address on maps.)

  12. Click on “Edit Profile” again.

  13. Scroll down to “Profile Display” and click on it.

  14. Click on “Display Contact Info” to make it white or blue (just so it’s not grey).

  15. Click “Done” in the upper right hand corner.

  16. Click the back arrow in the upper left hand corner to view your profile. It should be in blue right under your Bio.

  17. Click on your address.

  18. A pop-up box will come up from the bottom of the screen. Select a map program to make sure your address is correct.

  19. To be thorough, go back to Instagram, click on your address again, and check the other map program (if there is one).

  20. If they look good, you’re done! Congratulations!

  21. If they don’t look good, you might have a different address with Google or USPS. Go to https://tools.usps.com/zip-code-lookup.htm?byaddress and enter your address to get alternatives that USPS might have. They use 911’s address lists. While they’re not always the same as Google, it can help narrow down you exact address.

Hope that helped. Let us know - do you want us to do more like this in the future? Would pictures help or does the YouTube video suffice?

We look forward to seeing more addresses on Instagram in the future.
